Manicouagan, Côte-Nord

Culture and Heritage: More to Sea Than Meets the Eye…
Travelling down the Whale Route also entails learning about the culture and heritage of the Manicouagan region. Do you like tongue twisters? Try to say the following place names three times quickly: Tadoussac, Sacré-Cœur, Bergeronnes, Escoumins, Essipit, Longue-Rive. Are you up to the challenge?

Nature and Outdoor Activities

With its islands, located in the St. Lawrence River and Gulf, and its sandy beaches, the manicoise immensity knows how to satisfy fantasies of the sea. Its most exceptional aquatic fauna evolves among an incomparable flora. Pointe-des-Monts and Les Escoumins invite
you, for that matter, to take a dive under water in order to meet this fauna and flora
and discover this truly magical universe.

Winter Activities
The Côte-Nord winter favours seasonal sports because of its dry climate and vast expanses of white snow, where thousands of reflections come together under the sun like diamonds on ice! Thus, from December to April, the white season brings along an abundance of snow. From that moment on, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, and dogsled rides have the place of honour. In Manicouagan, you can spend the evening under a tent in the heart of winter, or count the stars before going to sleep in a real igloo.

Cruises & excursions
Manicouagan is synonymous with the sea—a sea formed by the waters of the St. Lawrence Estuary and Gulf that you can admire from the decks of a ship during a cruise or whale-watching expedition. The cold salt water is the perfect breeding ground for shellfish, fish and plankton, all staples in the diet of a host of marine mammals.

Hunting and Fishing
The North Shore has many outfitters offering equipment and reserved areas in the boreal forest for sport hunting and fishing. You are guaranteed to claim a lion's share of the spoils, regardless if you are a resolute tracker, patient hunter in a blind, experienced flyfisher or cunning trapper! The more than twenty outfitters located in the Manicouagan region give you the opportunity to bag waterfowl, catch salmon or track the elusive black bear. Be the one to bring home the "bacon" after your wilderness adventure!
