Winter, Manicouagan

Winter, outdoor activities, Manicouagan
The Côte-Nord winter favours seasonal sports because of its dry climate and vast expanses of white snow, where thousands of reflections come together under the sun like diamonds. Thus, from December to April, the white season brings along an abundance of snow. From that moment on, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, and dogsled rides have the place of honour. In Manicouagan, you can spend the evening under a tent in the heart of winter, or count the stars before going to sleep in a real igloo. Do you think you will be able to resist the rivers, river mouths, and numerous lakes that are frozen solid and that are inviting you to come and tease the smelt, trout or perch, all the while well wrapped up and huddled in a small cabin? The most courageous people do it in the outdoors, therefore if you are sensitive to the cold, stay inside! As winters go by on the Côte-Nord, you will discover many wonderful things to share!

Snowmobiling

Manicouagan offers 2000 km (1200 mi.) of snowmobile trails in a completely white environment! This region is a true paradise for snowmobilers with its marked trails linked to Trans-Québec trail #3. Whether you are interested in short rides, longer rides or adventure excursions, Côte-Nord rolls out the white carpet for you. One of the most popular tours includes a trip across the St. Lawrence on the Camille-Marcoux ferry, which links the north and south shores. In addition, the bridge across the Manicouagan River in Baie-Comeau is the longest of its kind in North America. At over 200 m (700 ft) long and nearly 30 m (90 ft) high, it allows snowmobilers to cross this river made famous by its dams.
