Wide spaces, grandiose landscapes, abundant wildlife, and the diversity
of habitats make the Côte-Nord a choice destination for hunting,
fishing and wildlife observation. The Manicouagan tourist region offers
a wide variety of activities, includingblack bear observation, bow hunting,
deep sea fishing, and ice fishing.
The Côte-Nord... a fisherman’s paradise. Native brook trout
(speckled trout) are not only abundant but the only species found in numerous
lakes and watercourses, where fishing is nothing short of outstanding!
Lake trout, Atlantic salmon (ouananiche), and northern pike are also abundant
in the clear, cold waters. Locals have also worked hard to promote the
joys of winter. Why not combine a snowmobile ride with ice fishing? Fishing
for brook trout and rainbow smelt on a large number of bodies of water
in winter is an attraction unique to the Côte-Nord. You must take
advantage of the opportunity! Hunting activities are also numerous. Moose,
black bear, snowshoe hare, ruffed grouse, spruce grouse, and willow ptarmigan
are popular with hunters, as are numerous species of waterfowl.
For wildlife observation enthusiasts, the Manicouagan tourist region offers
several interesting sites. All you have to do is think about the many bays
and river mouths where many species
of birds gather, the sites favourable for whale watching, and the possibility
of spying on bears and wolves in made-to-measure locations.
A large variety of organizations offer many wildlife-related products and
services, including ecotourism activities. Outdoor enthusiasts can choose
from one of the four ZECs offering salmon fishing or one of the six ZECs
where both hunting and fishing are available. There are also some 50 outfitters
operating in the region, 26 of which have exclusive hunting, fishing, or
trapping rights in their territories. Reservations are recommended during
the peak season. If you would prefer to explore on your own, an important
portion of the region is composed of public land offering unrestricted
access. The developed access in the backcountry leads you to discover magnificent
sites.
Hunting, fishing, and wildlife observation in the Manicouagan region is
the kind of adventure
you will want to share with all your friends! Join us to discover a part
of the Québec territory, or come back to explore over and over!
