Industrial Profile
The development of an abundance of natural resources is at the origin of
today’s blooming Côte-Nord. At the beginning of the 20th century,
fishing and logging were the main industries. A growing demand in raw materials
soon attracted large companies interested in developing the backcountry’s
resources such as mines, hydroelectricity and industrial development. Their
implementation required the construction of important infrastructures and
new roads, towns and railways soon followed. Then arose mining towns like
Fermont and the constructionof hydroelectric installations. Thus, the 1960s
witnessed the arrival of Manic-Cinq, the world’s largest multiple
arch dam, that became Québec’s pride at the time of the Révolution
tranquille. Discover these companies as many of them are proud to open their
doors to visitors and show their know-how. |
